SS-31 (also known as elamipretide, Bendavia, or MTP-131) is a synthetic tetrapeptide that targets the mitochondria. By binding to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, it helps restore energy (ATP) production, scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS), and protects cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis.
